I’m probably demonstrating an unforgivable atrocity of cluelessness with this, but what’s the picture?
In other news, today I was assigned three minions and, with their assistance*, taught 18th century games to mobs of children. It was good, I only had to scoop one tiny being from a possible death by choking on marbles, and only one minor casualty in the form of a girl being bonked on the head with falling stilts. Other than that, success, and in the first case it was also a success and I got to hold an adorable little being. Not quite as good as a puppy/kitten/other baby creature, but close enough for jazz.
*By this I mean that I delegated tasks then sat back to watch while blowing soap bubbles.

Whoo, went dumpster-diving for the first time last night. HAVE SO MUCH FOOD.
6.
Fiddler | April 10, 2011 at 7:11 am
Ah, Dr. Who. That’s why I didn’t get it.
Mel~ I’ve never been properly dumpster diving, but I want to at some point. I doubt there’s that much good to be found in my town, but meh. I need to round up friends and go exploring.
That would, of course, be easier if I had more local friends. Goddamn it why do all the cool people live so far away? I might be able to talk a few kids around here give it a try though. Then we can go adventuring, picture-taking, dumpster-diving and fun-having.

Fiddler | April 11, 2011 at 1:21 pm
Crisis management all day, whooo!
The washing machine flooded my room, which means that we got to tear all of my stuff out onto the porch and lawn, where it will stay until we get the washing machine out and the room cleaned up and a bed frame made and at least some of the stinkbug population eradicated. BRILLIANT.
8.
Axa | April 11, 2011 at 4:56 pm
I thought stink bugs were the same as june bugs, so i looked them up…NO, FALSE, 10000 TIMES WORSE. i award you 9000 points for bravery, oh my GODDDD
9.
Fiddler | April 11, 2011 at 7:20 pm
Oh god, they’re everywhere. Seriously, you can’t afford to be scared of them here, because you’d die millions of times per hour. Under my unused violin cases they tend to pile up in sheets of grossness. We have several designated shopvac vacuums for attempting to control their population.
So after choir rehearsal I got yelled at by the woman (I hesitate to say lady) who’s god-given parking place I had the impudence to accidentally park in. Came back to the car, notes under both windshield wipers. First one (driver’s side) said “no parking tow away” (handwritten, so I wasn’t that concerned. The other one said “can’t you read? NO PARKING!” then she came out and started yelling at me, told me I’d taken up HER SPACE and they hadn’t been able to park (here she gestured at a huge truck with a small trailer attached, that had plenty of space, but was in front of her sidewalk, boo hoo), that I should park at the college (the opposite end of town), and when I said “I came for a weekly choir rehearsal, and there was nowhere else to park” she screeched “I DON’T CARE!” At that point I apologised again for any inconvenience, wished her a pleasant evening and got into the car. It was only after I’d done that that I noticed the dirt clods stuck to the windshield, that I’m 80% certain she put there, based on her behavior. If I’d have known before getting in the car I’d have probably said a little more than I did.
Oh well. At least the top was up, I’d hate to think what she would have done if I’d have left it open.
Which reminds me to NEVER leave the top down when I’m going to be parking my car for more than 15 minutes where I can’t see it.
BUT ON A HAPPIER NOTE my camera is coming in two days and I’M SO EXCITED I COULD SHIT RAINBOWS. Except not, because that’s probably extremely unhealthy.

Fiddler | April 11, 2011 at 7:22 pm
Oh, and P.S.
Henceforth my reply to any attack, be it upon my person, virtue or literacy, shall be “bitch please, I’m a sailor.”
Unfortunately I didn’t think to use it on Parking Space Psychobitch, but NEXT TIME….
11.
Axa | April 11, 2011 at 8:49 pm
lol what the hell? i hate when people claim things that are public as “theirs,” so ridiculous.
12.

First half of the GED, done that. Second half (math, because they didn’t have calculators tonight so we’re doing it out of order) tomorrow. Whoo. Fortunately they let us leave early if we finished before the time was up, otherwise I’d still be there. :/ (The time was from 5 to 10. 0.o)
Camera came, obviously, and there are pictures on fb if you haven’t already seen. Yay! Awesomeness!
My Room Renovation Saga is drawing to a close. The washing machine and pantry bits are all torn out, so the entire building is mine. OMG SPACE. I may also get curtains on the sidewalk side, which is A Good Thing for when friends come a-calling, or, y’know, when I don’t feel like living with glass walls. Yay!
Now I just need to sort through the mountains of accumulated crap that’s been building up since I moved in the first time. I might actually be organized for a little bit before sinking into chaos again! AMAZING.

Kagcomix | April 16, 2011 at 11:54 am
Fiddler- nice camera/photos. I was deffinitely creeping.
It’s pretty much decided that I’m moving out all the way across the country, through three time zones, to go to university. So that’s kind of exciting, I guess. And the university doesn’t have a residence, so I will be living on my own.
I’ve been poster & cover making all today. I have three shows coming up soon, and the latest issue of a zine to help produce. But it’s all fun. I love this sheesh.
19.
Mel | April 19, 2011 at 5:35 am
So, ASOIAF, right? Fucking Game of Thrones, etc. Also excite for new book July.
Omagod just… just the delivery of every line ever. EVER. And how did Jon Snow get so EMO? I mean, he was moderately emo, but still badass. They just made him all emo.
And Dany/Drogo. Uhhh, was it just me or did the series make it seem WAY more rapey than it was in the book? Oh, HBO.
ALSO JAIME <3
The things he does for love.
20.
dark dude of darkness | April 19, 2011 at 6:33 pm
THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS AND SHIT—
I would paraphrase the thoughts of someone on a different forum, but it’s almost silly. He says, regarding the rapeyness:
“Dany is actually aged up to 17-18 in the show. For one, there’s no way that Emilia Clarke looks anywhere near 13. Secondly, the cost-benefit ratio (in terms of viewership and visual storytelling) definitely doesn’t favor having a 13 year-old girl get raped, especially with the eventual love she shows Drogo. Seeing a little kid look beyond the apparent in order to develop genuine love for someone like Drogo just wouldn’t work for most viewers – I almost don’t think it would work at all unless you developed an entire series around that particular dynamic. As it stands, this is going to help avoid a few accusations of Stockholm Syndrome (or the equivalent) later on. Beyond this, casting that kind of a role would be an added nightmare; it looks like Clarke is really going to be able to shoulder Dany’s arc, and that requires a huge range.”
So yeah, I completely agree with that.
21.
POSOC | April 24, 2011 at 8:28 pm
Some of the acting struck me as wooden, to be honest. I did love the guy they got to play Viserys, though (Harry Lloyd?). He does an excellent job of portraying a loathsome entitled creep. And of course Peter Dinklage was brilliant as Tyrion.
Also, ADWD YESSSSSSSSSS

Kagy~ Thanks. ^.^
Living on your own far, far away from home does sound exciting, I’m sure you’ll do excellently.
People keep asking why I didn’t even bother looking at any local colleges. I just look at them like they’re nuts. Yes, there’s an awesome town with a great college close by, but I do not want to go to school an hour away from home. No. I think a 7 hour drive is suitable.
Jade~ SQUID POWER.
24.
Dodecahedron | April 20, 2011 at 3:14 pm
THIS SO MUCH THIS
Bard? No. Vassar? NO. I don’t know why I let my parents force me to apply there. Too close.
Five hours will be far enough.
tangentially related: I have to wait to send in my deposit to college until /after/ I see my psychiatrist tomorrow because he probably wouldn’t agree with me going that far away and I can’t lie to doctors (e.g. that fucking gynecologist who wouldn’t let me have an IUD because of sex even though I absolutely wasn’t pregnant) and you just know he’s going to ask what my college plans are but I need to see him soon because I need medication….
25.
Fiddler | April 22, 2011 at 10:26 am
Is it possible that a change of scene and getting out on your own might be a Really Good Thing for you?
I think you said on MB you decided on University of Rochester? How far away from your house is that?
26.
Dodecahedron | April 22, 2011 at 2:55 pm
Good news: He didn’t ask about college at the appointment
Bad news: I don’t like change, so it’s more likely that a change of scene would be really bad than really good. I think I can take care of myself when I have to, but I’m not sure that my parents believe that.
Rochester’s the school that’s five hours away. I think it’s a comfortable distance, since there are trains going homeward every day and everything.
27.
Lizzie | April 19, 2011 at 3:55 pm
22-hour drive, w00t w00t!

Fiddler | April 20, 2011 at 11:15 am
FUCK IT ALL WHERE IS MY DUCT TAPE?
Oh, I also sent in the deposit for WWC, so NORTH CAROLINA FOR REAL, BITCHES! Unless they decide that they actually don’t want me at their school, in which case I will be seriously bummed.
Now to call People From Other College and be like “uh, so….yeah I’m not going to go to your school, do you still want my GED scores in 8 weeks?” and try not to die of awkwardness. But Kelly’s pretty cool. I mean, she handled my calling and being like “so what exactly do you mean by ‘no homosexuality’ in the application/school policies stuff?” far more gracefully than I most likely would have had I been in her situation. Not saying I’m the standard by which graceful handling of awkward situations should be judged (GOD FORBID), but yeah.
I still don’t know where that goddamn duct tape is, and I need it to keep the bees from coming in my pathetic excuse for a screen door. Fuckers. (Actually not though, since only the queen gets to have sex, and since these gals are in my room instead of in their hives, obvs they’re not the queen.)

I don’t suppose anyone knows where I can come by a [digital] score for “Music For 18 Musicians” ?
Steve Reich.
LIZZIE THIS MEANS YOU AND ALL THE MUSICY PEOPLE YOU KNOW.
30.
Jadestone | April 23, 2011 at 3:22 pm
Asked my friend in the conservatory as well, he works in the music library so might be able to find one
31.
Lizzie | April 23, 2011 at 7:32 pm
http://www.boosey.com/pages/cr/perusals/score.asp?id=1009
you’d need an account.
Probably interlibrary loan would be your best bet for a non-digital score – recent works are still under copyright, so you’d have to look through torrents to find one for free and it’s not on IMSLP.
32.
Lizzie | April 23, 2011 at 7:33 pm
although it looks like you can make an account for free. Dunno.

Spent spring break in the City of Museums (Washington DC). TRAVELING. WHAT. Anyway, awesomeness ensued but I don’t have pictures so I can’t prove it.
Had sushi for the first time. DELICIOUS. Am now hunting local sushi places. And money. :\
Went to http://www.brewmasterscastle.com/index.htm irl and you really really have to be there to appreciate that much concentrated beautiful but *incoherent babbling*.
34.
Dodecahedron | April 26, 2011 at 12:34 pm
Any Japanese restaraunt will have sushi. I like this one in the Apple Valley Plaza, it’s by a Walgreens, off Route 55. You can also get bubble tea there!
35.
penguini | April 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm

penguini — omg i’m so jelly about the museums. would you care to talk more about that because i always want to hear more about D.C. museums *lives vicariously*
that link looks super cool too! DANG
also despite being a vegematarian now i am always kind of envious of people who actually enjoy sushi. i tried it only after my aunt challenged my azn-ness over having never done so and DUDE I JUST CAN’T.
to make this at all relevant, you may be able to find sushi at grocery stores though i cannot attest to the quality.
also bubble tea QQ my creyyysss
fiddler — I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU THOUGH OMG POST PICS AND STUFF OF YO DORM ONCE YOU GET THERE (I KNOW IT IS NOT EVEN SUMMER, WHATEVER)

So I got to set up tents at 1:30am this morning. Then the sky was all “I’MMA DUMP SO MUCH MOTHERFUCKING RAIN AND BLOW SO MUCH WIND EVERYWHERE!!!!” So I got to worry about the said tents all night (I came home after setting them up, so I couldn’t check on them).
This morning, woke up with an inexplicable and debilitating earache, spent most of the day sobbing in pain and accomplishing nothing. Obviously missed the first day of Market Fair, which is just the only actual living history event we go to anymore, and also my favorite, and, like, something I look forward to ALL YEAR. But no biggie, y’know.
Ear is still weird, but I can at least think something other than “OH GOD PAIN, PAIN MORE PAIN OW OW OWWWWWWW PAIIIIINNNNNN!” and hold my head upright again. Yay for the little joys in life.

Guys I got another offer to play in a band that does pirate festivals. I think this might be a sign. I just need to root out that business card/re-find their website and send them an email. “Hi, I’m the random concertina player you talked to the other day, were you serious about wanting me to play with you? Because that sounds like fun to me….”
42.
Fiddler | May 1, 2011 at 7:05 pm
FOUND IT. Hmm…..pondering. This may or may not be a good decision to make at 11pm after very little sleep during the previous several days and nights.
Does Fern want to play in a band at pirate festivals?
Part of her is screaming yes, the other part is howling in pain.
43.

Sheesh. Didn’t mean to press “post comment”.
I bought my prom ticket today. Which means I have to actually commit to going. A few months ago I was all “no. never. ever. dumbness.” But then my (twin) brother decided he was going to his prom (we go to different highschools)…. and I felt like I had to go to my prom… to make the photo albums look nice. Oh what the fuck. It’ll be fine.
Some people, though, are buying really fucking expensive dresses… and they’re ugly too (the dresses mostly
I jest) but then I scroll down to look at the comments on the ugly pictures in the facebook group & they say stuff like “omg, so beautiful! so you” and sheesh like that. Oh well. Too bad for them.
I think prom is a bigger deal in the US, anyhow. That is what hollywood tells me.
49.
Fiddler | May 2, 2011 at 1:31 pm
PIRATING, I’M TOTALLY GIVING IT A SHOT. WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW THIS TURNS OUT.
I mean, seriously, after a certain number of invites to pirate bands (okay 2, whatever) one starts thinking it would be foolish to do anything other than give up and go for it.
50.

74.
penguini | May 18, 2011 at 2:58 pm
I’ve only been to noncon which is the tinyass local con of friggin’ teensiness. I would totally be cool with going to anime expo IF GETTING ACROSS THE COUNTRY WASN’T DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE I was only planning to visit roo and mili so I only have like $150 in travel money (or money at all >_<).
irn, I'm quasi-officially Xaldin in the local orgXIII. I think that means I get drunk with luxord on a regular basis and stab people when they bother me. OH DEAR THE FANDOM IS EATING MAI SOUL
75.
Ebeth | May 18, 2011 at 4:57 pm
dudes i ALMOST HAD A FREE TICKET (plus travel AND hotel room) FOR COMIC-CON BUT THE LAZY BASTARD I WAS GONNA MAKE OUT WITH FOR THIS TICKET (oh god i am such a whore) OVERSLEPT AND DIDN’T GET TICKETS
srsly though all i had to do was make out for plane tickets, hotel room, and 4-day pass. judge all you want, i would’ve take that shit
BUT NO, HE HAD TO OVERSLEEP (needless to say he got zero makeouts)
76.
Ebeth | May 18, 2011 at 4:58 pm
also y’all should totally come to columbus for ohayocon and/or MARCon, they’re both decent-sized cons (ohayocon’s bigger but is just anime, MARCon is smaller but includes all of sci-fi/fantasy/alternate history/reality/whatever. basically NURRRRDSSS)
77.
penguini | May 19, 2011 at 10:53 am
ebs- I’d do that too. I mean, who wouldn’t for a deal that good.
if I didn’t have school and other now-pointless stuff I would jump for marcon.
ohholycrap ohayocon is like right around the corner from my college THIS MIGHT WORK
78.
axa | May 19, 2011 at 2:26 pm
penguini – LOOOOOOOL XALDIN, ILU. get them sideburns, gurl! all of the orgy 13 members seem fun to cosplay, once i was behind what i think was a luxord in line and he was so hilarious and complain-y lololol
ebeth- XDD THAT’S A GREAT DEAL TBH
ugh i want to go to all the cons. AX is really terrible about getting guests and doing anything, actually, so i think it’s time i ~broaden my horizons. y u all live so far away tho
79.
penguini | May 20, 2011 at 11:51 am
The sideburns are the hard part XD. Making the cloak? pffft. Epic hair? done. I don’t even need a wig. Lances? um, I’ll get back to you on that.
If the person you were standing behind had short blond hair, en was luxord. He’s the only one with short hair.
This is my local con- http://noncon.vassar.edu/ It is srsly pocketsized.
80.

It’s $105 for a four day pass (bargle) but for me travel is the expensive part- I don’t have a car so trains (planes?) yay.
And it’s in the south.

*is out of the loop about —- cons*
Lovely. So after waiting for two months to finally hear back about the job I applied for, I didn’t get it. Which means that I don’t have time to apply anywhere else for a summer job, since I’ve only got 3 months until I go to school. Urg.
On the bright side, I have a very open summer schedule now.

Does your new pirate band travel?
87.
Fiddler | May 20, 2011 at 1:55 pm
“My” pirate band (that I haven’t heard from for a few weeks, I should get on that) plays from DC to Richmond and in between mainly. So yeah, but not too far.
Kagy~ Yeah. Humph.
UGH THROAT. I feel like I’m being strangled plus pre- upchuck sensations. Not cool, body, not cool. But aside from that the plague I’ve been suffering from for the past week seems to be loosening its hold. Yay for that.

Well if you play or visit this you can crash at my place.
Or if need be, any of you can stay at my place anytime, really.

Kagcomix | May 20, 2011 at 12:18 pm
Fiddler- That’s such a bummer! It’s so difficult when potential employers either don’t contact you ever again or wait a long time to contact you.

Fiddler | May 22, 2011 at 9:12 am
Another successful phone call! If I was a rational human being I would stop being terrified of calling people, but since I’m not I still freak when I have to do it.
ANYWAY! MUSIC! YES! SHANTIES! YAY!
Also, I’m totally starting a shanty-sing at college when I get there. SO WHAT if it’s in the mountains away from any oceans or even big lakes? I will fill a sink with water and call that justification if I must.

Jadestone | May 22, 2011 at 11:52 am
Dude I go to school in OHIO and in the second week of school I’d already met friends and was singing all the Great Big Sea songs about sailors. And later on there was a pirate-themed sing-a-long. THERE IS ALWAYS A JUSTIFICATION

But Ohio has Great Lakes! I know this, because I’ve been on a tall ship in Ohio. EBETH WAS THERE TOO AND SO WAS GRANT IT WAS MAGICAL.
And NC isn’t completely landlocked, but Asheville kind of totally is.

okay so question for anyone who is/will be/has in the past been a college senior. what does your schedule look like for your spring semester? i’m trying to figure out scheduling and the possibility of various majors but idk how your last semester works. do you still get to take courses for your major? i know at my school i have to be done with core reqs by then, but like other than thesis what do you do? UGHHHH
100.
Ebeth | May 27, 2011 at 5:32 pm
well here we’re allowed to still get our requirements in then? but i know a lot of people who just take fun useless classes and then maybe one real class (that’d be the thesis or a senior seminar or something)
101.
axa | May 27, 2011 at 11:10 pm
okay yeah i guess it would be helpful if i contacted the registrar but they already ignored one of my emails and i feel like it’s a dumb question :/ i’m hoping i can still do some major reqs cause shit ain’t gonna fit otherwise
102.
Mel | May 29, 2011 at 4:55 am
I’m pretty sure you’re still allowed major recs. I know I’ll be filling mine during my last semestre.

The pirates have decided that they’ll keep me, and I’m fine with being kept by them, so EVERYBODY IS HAPPY.
Last night: “Okay, and please don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s awesome…you’re kind of a…tame fiddler. Tame because we get to play with you.”
“So I’m domesticated?”
“Not really… SIT. STAY.”
“Are you addressing me or the wine bottle?”
“The wine bottle.”
“Okay good, just checking.”
*she walks over and gives me a hug*
Anyway, music-playing went well.

PIRATES. PIRATES EVERYWHERE. HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
I’m on my last day of my first pirate festival. Still not sure whether I’m having a blast or completely horrified. Kind of both.
Yaaay!
Pip got to come up though!
Music has been going well; I know most of the songs, or at least some version of the chorus. The ones I don’t, I can usually pick up pretty quickly. Then other times I’m completely lost and I just sit there and try to decide what exactly it is I’m supposed to be doing.

*interrupts thread*
I’m back! Not even sure how long it’s been since my last post. Between homework, campus events, and laziness, I’ve still lurked a bit on Facebook since starting college, but otherwise let the rest of my online communications slip, hence the ridiculously long absence. Kokonvening with Mel and then PB&J (still need to put those pics on FB…fixing that now!) reminded me Musers are the hoopiest froods around and I need to stop being lazy and get involved in the community again, but I haven’t actually done it ’til now due to terrible procrastination tendencies and lots of distractions from studying abroad/summer classes. Now that I’ve finally gotten around to it, I’ll do my best to stay active this time!
Anyway, now back to pirates and all that other fun stuff from this thread.

Um… hi.
I don’t think I am going to be a permanent member of this place. I don’t even know if I qualify. In fact, I probably don’t. But I came across here while surfing the web and wondered what it was. Asking on MuseBlog didn’t work, as it wasn’t moderated (Robert must have disliked the reference to another website).
So, what is this place? I’ve read the section about what it is, and I have a basic understanding of it, but I’d like to hear from you guys.

Vendaval | June 16, 2011 at 4:17 am
Hey there!
We’re older than most on MB. We’ve got a slower pace, smaller community, and more “mature” interests. We IM.
Robert’s down with us hanging here, but MB is in its own bubble.
Come by anytime, stay for as long as you want.
